November 21, 2008 - International NASM -CPT (17)

The course will involve both theory and practical components. Students are advised to have a basic background in anatomy. If students are new to personal training then they may be required to enrol in a home study NASM Foundations for the Health and Fitness Professional. Students will received a textbook, study guide, DVD set, i-pod and mp3 download plus three attempts on the exam.

December 4, 2008 - NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist Course NASM CES

The NASM-CES course will cover nine learning modules including: Movement Assessments module will cover the need for movement assessments, the science behind the overhead squat assessment and the single-leg squat assessments as well as lead you through a step-by-step assessment process that is easy to follow and implement with your clients The Inhibitory Techniques module will cover the science behind self-myofascial release and discuss precautions and contraindications when using the technique. The Lengthening Techniques module will cover the science behind static stretching and discuss precautions and contraindications to utilizing this technique. The Activation Techniques module will cover the science behind isolated strengthening as well as the acute variables and positional modifications. You will learn exercise execution, posture and common compensations typically seen when clients perform corrective exercises.The Integration Techniques module will cover the science behind integrated dynamic movement. You will learn the proper acute variables, precautions and contraindications to exercises as well as modifications to techniques. This module leads you step-by-step through exercise examples, showing correct execution of exercises as well as noting common compensations and corrections for each. Plus five modules with a focus on foot and ankle, knee, low back and shoulder impairments.

December 5/6, 2008 - Low Back Workshop

This course provides the latest research and findings with regards to the understanding of low back pain(LBP), its history and how it can occur, how you can assess a client to identify the severity of the LBP and whether you need to refer them. The course will provide a detailed understanding of the associated anatomy and physiology along with a solutions focused programme design methodology, with a whole series of programmes you can take apply immediately. In addition to all of this, this course will show you how you can liaise with other professionals within the medical world to ensure you can best support the most important person which is of course your client.

December 7, 2008 - Advanced Programme Design

This advanced programme design workshop will focus on the design, development and implementation of progressive programmes for a spectrum of clients. During the workshop Rodney will specifically address the question How do I set up and progress programmes for ALL my clients. The focus will be on progressions using a multitude of strategies all based upon principles of programme design. Rodney will create an envirnoment where trainers will apply thier knowledge and seek ways of thinking out of the box by systematically and with a progressive purpose design a unique programme. Lastly, Rodney will leave all in attendance with tools and the confidence to BUILD better, more PROGRESSIVE, and FUN programmes for your clients.

December 12, 2008 - Fun, Form, Function with Rollers

The Foam Roller, originally from the M. Feldenkrais Method, is an affordable and portable apparatus that clients can use for functional training and massage. Proprioceptive training, myofascial release, mobilization and trunk stabilization are a few of the ways to work with a roller. In this workshop participants will learn and perform the following exercises: trunk stabilization that requires recruitment of the pelvic, lumbar and scapular stabilizers; exercises to lengthen and release the thoraco-lumbar region, psoas and iliotibial band; foot mobilization; movements to encourage sequential spinal articulation and balance and fascial release. The skills on the roller workshop are based on M. Feldenkrais, Pilates, dance, physical therapy and other disciplines.

December 12, 2008 - Enhancing the Function of the Abdominal, Pelvic Floor and Lumbar Region

Have you noticed that your clients have difficulty in recruiting their transverse and pelvic floor muscles. Some clients are better at stabilizing their spine than others. In this workshop participants will discover the secrets to understanding and assessing abdominal and pelvic floor function and problems and factors that influence the abdominal region. The workshop will focus on the identification of: mechanics, structure, neurological factors, meridian and organ health, hormone balance and lifestyle. You will learn to assess a client, create a movement and Pilates programme to enhance your clients use of centre.

December 13, 2008 - Integrating Pilates: M. Feldenkrais and Physio-sythesis to Free the Rib Cage

Freedom of the thoraco-lumbar region (rib cage) is required for optimum function, successful Pilates and sports/dance acquisition, plumb line posture, organ function and proper neuromuscular recruitment. Participants will experience a profound body transformation using Pilates skills, M. Feldenkrais and Physio-synthesis based movements in this workshop. Imagery will be given to enhance this experience.

December 13, 2008 - Principles of Preventing and Managing Pain and Injuries

The goal of this workshop is to gain a deeper understanding of your health and function. You will learn how to balance the body more efficiently and take care of clients, yourself and family. The workshop will review: factors of injury and pain, mechanics, structure, neural, meridian, emotion, organ and lifestyle influences. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how nutrition, lifestyle and environmental factors influence your health; basic neuro-muscular concepts and breathing will be discussed; basic meridians and accupressure points that help you feel better and enhance movement performance; and the management of pain.

December 14, 2008 - Pilates and Pregnancy

This workshop provides an overview of teaching Pilates, M. Feldenkrais and Physio-synthesis inspired movements to a pregnant client. The workshop will review: changes in a pregnant womans body, emotions, hormones; contra-indications of exercise by Trimester; contra-indications of Pilates; what to watch for when teaching a pregnant client; basic principles of Pilates in daily activities; and skills inspired by M. Feldenkrais and Physio-synthesis that are recommended for pregnant clients.

December 14, 2008 - Solutions for Movement Problems and Injury through Postural and Gait Analysis

In this workshop participants will review: assessment of function, posture, gait and range of motion; movements that address dysfunction; movements that enhance meridian, organ and body function and structure; programme design based on postural and gait assessment; balance and movement; and exercises based on M. Feldenkrais and Physio-synthesis that optimize posture and gait.

December 15, 2008 - Movement Perspectives Principles-based Mat Class

In this workshop clients will learn how to enhance movement perspectives in order to develop a foundation of thinking and understanding of Pilates and its applications; learn flow and sequencing of a NY Classic style intermediate mat class while observing and identifying proper biomechanics. Emphasis will be placed upon Pilates principles of imagery, cueing, flow, sequencing, the 16 Pilates movements that the repertoire is based upon.

December 15, 2008 - Intermediate Reformer Repertoire

Participants will learn the classic intermediate reformer repertoire, by learning flow, transitions, modifications, levels and sequencing. Participants will learn variations and modifications; understand and learn how the set up, apparatus, and dimensions of equipment can influence performance. Attention will be placed on principles, concepts and imagery that optimize body function, breath, proper biomechanics, freeing the rib cage and neuromuscualr re-education.
